Must haves

I know this is sort of unconventional, but really, so am I.

I felt it was sort of important to introduce you to a few of my best friends in the kitchen. If you have these appliances you can make all sorts of home cooked wonders and impress your friends with little effort.

Now don't get me wrong here, I am not suggesting than the only true way to successfully run a kitchen is to have a thousand gadgets and appliances. Surely our grandmothers and great grandmothers got by just fine with little more than a couple of spoons and a bowl. But I am saying that these will make your life so much easier and they really do have a million uses.

For starters....

A good food processor is truly worth it's weight in gold. Almost all models come with a veggie slicer and cheese grater attachment. Plus the blades here will whip up some nice pie crust almost effortlessly. You will never need to buy pie crust again if you know how to make it. Don't worry, I will throw up some recipes later on.

Next and this is a very important appliance that I am convinced everyone should own.....

A crock pot.

What greater invention has the 20th century brought us than the crock pot?

Ok quite a few.

But my point is if you play your cards right, this little beauty will be the most used appliance in your house. I would even be so bold to say that I use this more than I use my oven. It just makes like easier to throw dinner in raw at 9 AM and have it ready and waiting at 5. I love my crock pot and you will only get it from me when you pull it from my cold dead hands.

Moving on.....

Then last but certainly not least.....

The end all be all of kitchen greatness. I love this so much that is is the only appliance in my kitchen that has a name.

The one ...
the only...

Fabulous stand mixer.

This baby slices, dices, mixes, kneads, and makes pasta. I have several attachments and use this almost daily for a multitude of tasks.

We are trying to eat better and know where everything that we put in our bodies comes from. One of the biggest things we all consume is bread. Well most bread (even a lot of the healthy stuff) has high fructose corn syrup as one of the first ingredients. Not to mention enriched wheat. (Both Dr.Oz no-no's) So we decided to make our own bread. Once we got into the groove of making it every couple days it was not that big of a deal. Especially with this mixer, it kneads it all for me.

Very nice feature.

So just a little run down on what I use the most. I am sure I will add more suggestions for things that work for me as I go along, but for now this is just a starter.

By the way, my mixer's name is Vera. She's my favorite.

Bonus points if you know why her name is Vera.

Every woman's best friend...
I know I have already introduced you to my personal best friends in the home.

Ok so I absent mindedly left this one out.

You must have a good label maker on hand.

This is mine.

I use this thing probably 3 or 4 times a day for one reason or another.

I freeze a lot of my creations and need to know what it is that I am looking for at a glance in my freezer.

Also I use it in my spice rack so that I can eliminate all of the different mismatched spice jars and use the same type of Tupperware container for all of them.

It is really something that I could not live without and neither should you.

I'm just sayin.
